A Lady’s Perspective of Dagorhir

A Lady’s Perspective of Dagohir

Dagorhir is our so much of our life.  We are GORG THE BLACKSMITH.  We sell GORGTECH Foam Fighting Sports Equipment.  We are basically kids with adult jobs.  We love board games, toy swords, wearing costumes, and talking in funny voices.  We also love working hard at jobs we love.  We started this business years ago simply because you had to make a boffer sword to play boffer sports.

I (Lady Gorg) was originally not into Dagorhir!  I was a little embarrassed and felt awkward like I didn’t know where/how I fit into the Dagorhir world of men with foam swords.  Nonetheless, I was there… learning how to sew and starting a sword business and hoping to make friends.  With a little time, I fell in love with the creative side of Larp sports.  I was enchanted with the thought and effort that most foam-fighters put into who their character is, what garb (costume) they wear, and even which weapon set is appropriate to complete their kit.  I also really enjoy bartering for new treasures, questing (or the sending of others on crazy quests), and heckling during tournaments.  Did I mention feast?  What lady doesn’t enjoy putting on a nice outfit and eating a messy pulled pork sandwich with friends?!?  😉  It took some time but I now love Dagorhir, the community of kind friends, the humor of immature adults, and the pleasure of playful exercise.

For almost seven years I’ve primarily been a non-combat aka noncom of Dagorhir but am slowly venturing onto the battlefield.  In the past few years, I’ve played around with the idea of joining the fighting on the field.  I love the strategy involved in playing a live chess game.  However, I do not like dying fast!  Originally I fought sword and board (as any good new fighter should) and then I quickly upgraded to 8-ft spear for a much more fun time.  Unfortunately, I have weak wrists that cannot handle aggressive polearm stabs.  Finally, I have found my home on the Dagorhir Battle Games field as in foam archery.

I think girlfriend archers sometimes get a bad reputation and I was afraid of people thinking anything bad about me too.  I wasn’t out there because I was afraid to get hit but because I wanted to enjoy participating without getting hurt.  Now, I am happy to be supportive and involved in a once overwhelming environment.  I enjoy running around with the warriors and feeling helpful, even if sometimes I am just standing still like an intimidating statue.  Thank you for being patient with me while I found my place.    Please help other nervous ladies like myself find their place in Dagorhir both on and off the field.

Whether it’s as a wonderful storyteller, a beautiful seamstress, a dangerous trader, or a strong shield maiden, women play an important part in Larp Sports and Boffer Games.

A Lady’s Perspective of Dagorhir Battle Games can surely change with time.  Originally nervous and uncomfortable I now LOVE Dagorhir.  I hope you will too!  If you ever find yourself bored… come to find me and we’ll either make trades or I will send you on a quest.  Until our next adventure together <3

Sincerely,
Lady Gorg
