Tips from the Gorg Team
While components of these types of equipment are largely considered “consumable” as they degrade with use, there are definitely ways to get the best life out of your gear. Here are my tips for how to best care for your foam swords.
The biggest tip I suggest is bringing your gear in from the car each night if you live in a climate that would expose the equipment to extremely high, or extremely low temperatures.Â
Avoid doing things like using the tip of your sword on the ground as leverage to stand up, this will degrade the tip quickly. Don’t lean on your sword!
Resting things on the gear applies compressive force for long durations of time is also no good, as it will cause divots in the foam that may not come out. Instead of piling things in a cluster, consider a vertical storage system.
Additionally, if the equipment becomes excessively saturated with water, it’s best practice to ensure it can dry thoroughly after use and before storage. Some fighters remove drawstring covers to allow maximum ventilation.
I like to store my swords pommel down, tip up, or laying flat on a smooth surface.
Once you’ve had enough fun with your weapon that it needs a new foam blade and thrusting tip, we sell kits for that repair too! (Grab some DAP from your local hardware store)
Thanks again for your support. Hope you have a blast with your first purchase!!
To maximize the life of a foam sword, Avoid:
- Exposure to extreme weather
- Storing with the tip down
- Resting other items on top of it
