Modular Arrowhead Attachment Tutorial

How to attach a modular foam LARP arrowhead to an arrow shaft for  Dagorhir Battle Games and boffer sports

Materials Required:

  1. UN-TIPPED arrow shaft. (Gorg recommends a 31” carbon fiber shaft)
  2. GorgTech Modular Arrowhead
  3. Duct Tape or Strapping Tape
  4. Hockey Tape
  5. Ruler or measuring tape
  6. Sharp cutting tool (scissors or knife)

Steps

  1. Fully insert your arrow shaft into the modular head and mark where the head ends, this will allow you to know how far the shaft needs to be inserted before you tape the head down to the shaft.
  2. Wrap a 1.5 inch length of duct around your arrow shaft and then test fit the head. The duct tape should cause a great deal of resistance, providing a solid and secure fit. The amount of duct tape you use to for this step will vary across different arrow shafts and will require some experimentation.
  3. Fully insert the arrow shaft into the modular head.
  4. Secure the head to the shaft with 3 to 4 strips of 1 inch wide duct tape about 5 inches long. After this step the head should have little to no ability to twist on the shaft and absolutely no ability to slide off the arrow shaft or wiggle.
  5. Cover any of the exposed arrowhead or tape with hockey tape.
  6. Add a draw stop 28 inches from the nock on the shaft. Cut a piece of duct tape 8 inches long and about ½ to 1 inch wide and wrap it around your arrow. The draw stop should stand out and provide a barrier for the arrow to not be drawn past the stop. To test this, pull the arrow towards you against the corner of a table, the draw stop should catch on the corner of the table and stop. Additionally, you may want to add a piece of tape at 14 inches from the nock to mark your half draw; you can use reflective tape to make arrow retrieval easier, a single wrap of duct tape will work as well.
